We all know Instagram is the best place to showcase your photos on social, but there are more ways to get creative than you may realize. Ever notice your feed getting flooded by a single user? Someone you follow might post a series of photos that seem a little boring: the random corner of a room, an enigmatic white square, a pic of half their face. You might think these pics are just bad, the result of a lazy photographer or less-than-artistic eye. What you don’t know is that they’re creating an Instagram collage—a super cool and sneaky way that users are enhancing their feeds.
Take, for example, this picture uploaded by singer Luke James.
Pretty uninspiring. But click on over to James’ own feed, and you’ll see the larger picture revealed. Pretty dope, huh?
Thanks to Instagram’s static 3-across grid, you can use your feed as its own canvas to create epic digital collages as small or big as you like, as long as you stick to the grid. Artists, brands, and everyday users have hopped on the trend, making the feed-scrolling experience a little more exciting. (Seriously, it’s a little like Easter egg hunting.)

But perhaps the king of the Instagram collage is Singapore photographer Ng Weijian, who has made a mindboggling feed. Whether simple 2-panel collages or 15-panel masterpieces, his feed is a visual treat.

Even if you’re not a pro photographer, this is a great technique to play with. We can’t wait to try.
